Memoir Project – A lesson in time and place - capturing emotions
Use the following topics to write your memoir. If you would like to substitute any (topic), please feel free to share your thoughts and ideas with me.
1. Who am I? – Create an acrostic poem with your name then describe who you are…use your personal information sheet to help you. What is your identity? Use cultural and religious information from class discussions…how do these shape your identity?
2. Choose a holiday that you celebrate with your family...write about one of these events. It has to be one particular event on a particular day because it has to be true…it cannot be general.
3. Death – write about the death of a family member--- when, how, and what effect it had on you.
4. My first day in kindergarten or high school.
5. Caught in the Act – write about a time you were caught doing something forbidden.
6. My First Love/My First Time on an Airplane/My First Phone/My First Kiss
7. Lost in ….New York, the mall, the park…choose a place.
8. Figurative Language – A Bird that Flies – describe a time you did something that is adventurous. “Free but unable to run” – write about personal entrapment in a situation.
9. Daddy or Mommy
Requirements
Create a memoir cover. Use your designing skills.
On the back cover, place your picture and a little bio about yourself.
Create a Table of Contents Page – Title with page number.
Your last entry should be “What I learned about myself as I was writing this memoir.”
Your memoir must have ten (10) chapters.
Each chapter must have a title and each page must be numbered.
You may include pictures in your memoir.
There is no length requirement for each entry. Each vignette should tell a complete story.
Remember, you are trying to write a best –seller. Make it interesting and captivating.
Rubrics will follow before you turn in your memoir. Revision lessons will follow.
